Kathak

Face paced and exciting, this dance was popularized in the Mughal courts for entertainment...as with most Indian Classical Dances it is religious in nature. However, Kathak can still be enjoyed by a wide variety of secular audiences because of its emphasis on footwork as opposed to such extreme focus on facial and hand gestures that make other dance forms so intricate. Kathaks complicated footwork and face paced turns can be formidable to most dancers. The upper body strength and leg stamina is very high in the best Kathak dancers.
